Patriot of the Month

The Patriots of the Month for February are Jill Sand and Susan Lamb.

Jill and Susan started an organization named “Grocery Gofers” in Lincoln a few years ago. They started when their Pastor challenged them to take $100 and see what a difference they could make in the lives of people of the Lincoln community.

They began delivering groceries to the doors of low income people who cannot make it to the usual food distribution programs in Lincoln. This could be due to work schedule, health problems or lack of transportation. Deliveries are made on Wednesday evenings by volunteers who bring in a donation of food. Donated food is used to pack bags of food for delivery the next week.

Jill and Susan work tirelessly acquiring donations of food and raising funds for this small program based in their homes. They deliver food to 250 clients on a rotating basis with an average of 18-25 bags delivered per week. Client names come from agencies and individuals who know of a temporary need for assistance. Unfortunately, they are not able to accept new clients due to their limited food supply.

The deadline for your Patriot of the Month nomination will close on the 21st of each month, 6 p.m. All nominations received after the 21st of each month, 6 p.m., will automatically be reviewed and considered for the following month.
